Holy Angels High School

Holy Angels was an all girls school in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, founded in 1885 by the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame. They gave the school the Latin motto: Angelis Suis Mandavit De Te meaning "He has entrusted you to the care of his angels". The crest also displays the lamp of learning symbol of academic excellence.

Holy Angels High School was the only "public" all girls school east of Montreal. It encompasses Grades 10 to 12 and services students from all over Cape Breton Island and beyond. They have International students from all parts of the globe attending the school, with the numbers increasing each year.

The school contains many programs such as: The French Immersion Program, The Duke of Edinburgh Program, The Options and Opportunities Program, The Creative Art Certificate Program.

On Thursday, October 28, 2010, the Cape Breton – Victoria Regional School Board announced that it will close Holy Angels High School in June 2011, prompting 200 students to picket outside the board's offices. The school board currently leases the school from the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame, which plans to sell the property in 2011. The school board said the Nova Scotia Department of Education could not afford to purchase the school from the order. This will be the last year for Holy Angels High, the School is set to close it's doors by the end of June 2011.[1]
